Community Calling Card
Bulawyo, ZIMBABWE (03/10/2009) BULAWAYO, ZIMBABWE
Dear Mottie
Lior has come and gone.Thank you for sending him to us!He was a pleasure as a visitor and uplifting as a musician.I must admit I was intimidated by his first e.mail with all his specifications but you had sorted that out before Lior"s arrival.
We enjoyage his talented performance which was held at Savyon. That way the elderly residents could also enjoy listening to a talented violinist.
There was a good attendance and the response was very positive. There was enthusiastic audience participation so much so that Mrs Baron, aged 90,joined in enthusiastically among the participants. You succeeded in your objective in making us feel happy while stiring our Jewish souls. What you do for the small Jewish communities is fantastic!
You will be pleased to know that I have been instrumental in the Bulawayo Hebrew Congregation getting a Rabbi for Rosh hashanah and Yom Kippur. Our Rabbi"s contract expired at the end of April and his wife ,though she loved the time they were in Bulawayo, wanted to go back to Israel for the sake of their children.Since then we have been without a Rabbi and, because of the collaps of the Zimbabwean economy, cannot afford to employ another one.I decided that was not acceptable,so with permission of Hylton Solomon, the president,I undertook to approach the members of the community to make a contribution towards paying for a Rabbi and I have succeeded!
Alan joins me in sending you fond greetings. We want to know when you and Chaviva will be visiting us.You deserve a holiday.
Thank you again on behalf of all who enjoyed the evening"s fine performance of Lior.
Yours affectionately Ruth
